On March 15, according to Yonhap news agency, the South Korea government plans to improve the competitiveness of high-tech industries such as semiconductor chips, displays and batteries by expanding tax relief and infrastructure construction. Among them is the plan to build the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing base in the capital circle, with a total investment of 550 trillion won (about 2882 billion yuan, 417 billion dollars), and Samsung has occupied many projects.
According to the report, Samsung Electronics said that it planned to invest about 300 trillion won (about 230 billion US dollars) to participate in the plan of building the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing base in the capital circle planned by the Yoon Hyatt government of South Korea by 2042 to improve the semiconductor manufacturing capacity of South Korea.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea stated that Samsung would plan to build five wafer factories, attract up to 150 supply chain enterprises such as material, parts and equipment manufacturers to settle in, and cooperate with fabless chip design companies and semiconductor research and development institutions.
South Korea has the world’s largest memory chip manufacturers, Samsung and SK Hynix. Especially under the background of major countries in the world, such as the United States, Europe, Japan and China, which are vigorously developing their domestic semiconductor manufacturing industry, South Korea hopes to further improve the stability of the domestic semiconductor supply chain, and become a leader in the field of non-memory chip industry, competing with competitors such as TSMC and Intel.
